Understanding Sessions and Bounces

Master the two core concepts that power Fast Bounce

Sessions

Session represents a Pro Tools session file (.ptx) that you've loaded into Fast Bounce.

What Sessions contain:

  • Session metadata (name, path, sample rate, bit depth)
  • Default bounce settings (output bus, file format)
  • Timeline configuration (start/stop times)
  • All bounce tasks for this project
Each Pro Tools .ptx file becomes a Session in Fast Bounce.

Bounces

Bounce is an audio export job that defines what and how to export from your session.

What Bounces define:

  • Audio content (which tracks to include/exclude)
  • Export settings (file format, sample rate, bit depth)
  • Timeline range (start and stop times)
  • Processing status (queued, completed, failed)
Each Bounce will create a specific audio file.

How They Work Together

The powerful relationship between Sessions and Bounces

1
Load Your Pro Tools Sessions

Import your Pro Tools projects (.ptx files) into Fast Bounce - each becomes a Session

2
Create Your Bounces

Select the tracks and use one of the four bounce modes to create your export tasks

3
Scale Across Multiple Projects

Do it for multiple Sessions with multiple Bounces - organize your entire workflow

4
Never Lose Your Progress

All Session and Bounces configuration are stored across app closing and opening, so recalling work is super easy

5
Automated Session Management

While exporting, Fast Bounce will deal with the open and close of the multiple Pro Tools Sessions that can be queued

One Session = One Pro Tools Project (.ptx)
Multiple Bounces per Session

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Fast Bounce

Is Fast Bounce only for Pro Tools?

Yes—for now, Fast Bounce is built exclusively for Pro Tools 2024.10 or later, using the Pro Tools Scripting Library. It connects directly with Pro Tools to automate the native bounce engine. Support for other DAWs isn't available at this time, but we're listening closely to requests for future expansions.

Is Fast Bounce macOS only?

Currently, yes—Fast Bounce runs on macOS 11 or later. A Windows version is in the works and will follow once we finish stabilizing the post-launch roadmap. If you're a Windows user and interested, feel free to reach out—we're tracking demand.

Does it work with real-time bounce for outboard gear?

Absolutely. Just uncheck "Offline Bounce" in your session config and Fast Bounce will run a real-time bounce through your usual routing—ideal for outboard gear chains or final analog passes. You get automation with full audio integrity.

Can I use my Mac while Fast Bounce is working?

Yes, and that's one of its biggest advantages. Once the bounce starts, Fast Bounce runs in the background—you can answer emails, prep other sessions, or even walk away. No need to babysit Pro Tools. It's designed to save you time and keep your workflow moving.

Does Fast Bounce print to audio tracks?

No—Fast Bounce uses Pro Tools' Bounce Mix engine and doesn't automate track-based recording. That means it won't "print" to an audio track in the session. If printing is part of your workflow, we're actively researching ways to support that in future updates.
